WHAT IS CROSSFIT?

CrossFit is strength and conditioning discipline that practices CONSTANTLY VARIED, FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT, in HIGH INTENSITY. CrossFit combines movements across multiple fitness disciplines with a mixture of Olympic Lifting, Power Lifting, Gymnastics, and Athletics – trained in a mixture of time frames. The practice of CrossFit aims to increase the athlete’s capacities across broad time modal domains.

Olympic Lifting – The practice of the Snatch and Clean and Jerk along with the auxiliary exercises of these two lifts are part of the CrossFit program. These lifts tests aspects of human ballistic limits (explosive strength); the lifts are therefore executed faster—and with more mobility and a greater range of motion during their execution—than other strength movements. Properly executed, the snatch and the clean and jerk are both dynamic and explosive while appearing graceful, especially when viewed from a recording at a slowed speed.

Power Lifting – The Power Lifting that is practiced within CrossFit focuses on the Back Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press and Overhead Press. Power lifting develops the athlete’s “raw strength” as it combines multi-joint, multi-muscle / full body movements to execute the lifts. It serves as the basic strength foundation for all athletes to build athletic and specific capabilities upon.

Gymnastics – The CrossFit practice of gymnastics is a broad term to cover body weight movements including but not limited to gymnastic rings, pull ups, handstand push ups, and general body mobility. Gymnastics is a sport that requires balance, strengthflexibility, agility, endurance and control. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, chest and abdominal muscle groups. Alertness, precision, daring, self-confidence and self-discipline are mental traits that can also be developed through gymnastics

Athletics – The combination of running, jumping, throwing is practiced by CrossFit athletes as part of the athletics discipline.
